Established in 1993, the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Henan University of Technology is authorized to offer two undergraduate programs: English and Translation/Interpreting; two postgraduate programs: Master of Foreign Languages and Literature, Master of Translation and Interpreting(MTI).

I. Staff

Faculty of Foreign languages currently has 111 staff of which 96 are full-time teachers. There are altogether 44 staff have been the professors and associate professors, and 22 of whom have gained PhD degrees. There are 16 supervisors for master degree study and 1 for PhD degree. The two teaching teams, The English Major Teaching and College English Teaching, have been granted the titles of "Excellent teaching team at the provincial level" and "the Excellent Frontline Teaching Unit in Henan province ".

II Programs and Centers

The Faculty of Foreign Languages was approved to start postgraduate programs in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in 2006, and in five years the program has been granted as a first-level discipline according to the National Standard for Discipline Classification. In 2018 the program was granted the ninth municipal-level key discipline. The qualification for MTI has been granted in 2021. The Foreign Languages and Literature has become national first-class major construction sites in 2022.

There is a center for the international Communication of the Central Plain Studies, focusing on teaching and studying the heritage of Central Plain in China, and center was granted as a postgraduate education innovation training base in Henan Province in 2021.

III Students

There are 911 students enrolled at the Faculty of Foreign Languages , and 858 of whom are undergraduates and 53 are postgraduate students. Holding the educational ethos that naturing students with both general and solid specialized knowledge, and cultivating students with global vision, the faculty provides courses, practicums, extracurricular activities and volunteer activities to develop their ability to fulfill their future roles in cross-cultural communication and international trade.

IV Research

With 20 years of growth, the Faculty of Foreign Languages has been listed among the forefront of the equivalent universities in Henan Province. In the past five years, the staff of the faculty have undertaken 3 projects of National Philosophy and Social Science Foundation, 1 project of Humanities and Social Science of Ministry of Education, 1 key research project of Ministry of Education of National Education Science Planning; presided over and completed 3 provincial education reform projects, and won 4 teaching Excellence Awards of Henan Provincial Education Burau; presided over and completed 53 projects of Provincial Philosophy and Social science; published 44 CSSCI-indexed papers; complied 29 textbooks; won 3 second-class and 2 third-class prizes of Henan Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Excellent Award, and 1 second-class prize of Henan Provincial Development Research Award. The faculty was also approved for the constructions of Henan Provincial Online Excellent Open Courses and Top Courses, 2 Henan Provincial Online Open Courses, 3 Provincial Online Top Courses, 2 Provincial First-class Courses, 1 Provincial Civic Science Model Course, and 2 "High Quality Courses for Postgraduate Education" of Henan Provincial Education Department. The Education Department of Henan Province authorized Conference Interpretation and A Textbook of Central Plains (Henan) Culture in English Translation as the "14th Five-Year Plan" teaching materials. Conference Interpretation was also awarded the province's best textbook.

V. Resources

The Faculty of Foreign Language has extensive book resources and advanced teaching facilities. It currently has more than 30 multifunctional language laboratories, including cloud desktop language laboratories, multilingual classrooms for foreign language teaching, laboratories for simultaneous interpretation, laboratories for computer-assisted translation, interactive training rooms for learning languages using virtual scenes, recording studios, and projection rooms, among others. Websites for curricula and smart teaching platforms have been developed to fully empower both teaching and research.

VI Community Services

For the volunteer translation activities of the "Zhengzhou International Shaolin Martial Arts Festival," the Foreign Language Faculty is the sole cooperative school in the province of Henan. In recent years, it has dispatched more than a thousand students to offer full translation volunteer service for martial arts teams from nearly a hundred nations and regions, and it provides year-round volunteer service for China's Foreign Assistance projects of the Ministry of Commerce carried out by Henan university of Technology.

Additionally, the faculty has received honorary titles for collective work, including "National Outstanding Female Model of International Labor Day," "Provincial Female Worker Model," "Provincial Outstanding Unit to Safeguard the legitimate Rights and Interests of Women and Children," "Model Staff by Provincial Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sport Organization," "Provincial Advanced Unit of Female Staff by Provincial Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sport Organization," and "Province Outstanding Party Committee at the Frontline ", etc.
